10.09It's obvious that an email cannot be burned after reading, and that what it is said and sent, has shaped us. In the same way I hope i'm not misunderstood by those who read my commentaries. So, with my bestintentiona at heart, i'll touch on a subject that seems to have divide the in habitants of the city; the cycle lane.If the intention of the City council is simply to improve the image of a city that has been slowly losing it's tranquillity, its main sign of identity, then it will have been a work in vain (like so many others) to spend our money on a plan aimed at mobilising us on two wheels. If on the contrary, this is first stage in educating to the population to represent Palma to it's many tourists as a green, clean, comfortable and more efficient city, with a clear vision of a where it wants to go, then I believe that it will work. I arrived in this city in 1985, and in 87 I settled completely. I have lived here for 18 years, in different parts from El Terrano to San Migule, and three years ago imoved out to the country in search of a bit of piece and quiet, and someday I hope to return to the city, with it's former tranquility restored as it was in 1985. Briefly:then, the bike lane is a very cool idea, but I would also propose that traffic is calmed, in and effort to reclaim the streets, and give back to the sidewalks to the bars and restaurants whom with their terraces, dress the city beautifully for it's residents and it's millions of visitors.Changing of subject, but with some connection to the last issue, I have to tell you that as of January 2010 (I can't believe it's already 2010...!!) it will not be possible to smoke in Garito. Or any other public bar or restaurant for that matter The Government is preparing a law prohibiting smoking in all public spaces, including bars, discotheques, restaurants…. so, I imagine that we must assume that you will have to smoke outside in the street, or the terrace, although we will all be thankful for to passively smoke someone elses nicotine with them. So it's not all bad... I'll finish off with what we have lined up for you this month. The first Saturday of the month we'll have Alex Prat, our first guest this month. He was born in Paris, although he grew up in the land of the rising sun- Japan. Being European but living in Japan presented him with a great opportunity to get involved in many different cultaral scenes, and work with such european dance labels as F Comm, and Mr Bongo Disorient Japan. He was responsible for the forst three Bossa Tres Jazz releases, and now spends his time living between New York and Tokyo, and working on his own project Tokyo Black Star with Isao Kumano. On Thursday 15th we will have I Cube, aka Nicolas Chaix, whose extensive discography began in 1996, when Daft Punk did a remix of his fisrt single for the Versatile label. Since then this Parisien has become part of the collective know as French Touch, who have created their own style of music with set in an abstract universe. With four albums "Picnic Attack" 1997, "Adore" 1999, "3" 2003, "Live At the Planetarium" 2006) under their belts, I: Cube also continues to work under another pseudonym as Chateau Flight with Gilb R, who is the man behind the groovy Versatile label whose output includes music from Kraftwerk, Maurizio, Steve Reich, and Underground Resistance, with inluences from 80s electrofunk, Psychedelic rock and soul music, he is without doubt one of the most interesting artist we have had the pleasure to invite to Garito. That's all for now, I'm off to have my dinner!! Take care, and see you soon, Nacho. |
