09.09Screenshot 2009-08-31 at 21.27.pm, August; I was saying goodbye to the summer with some good friends, and the topics of conversation are, as always, football and politics. We were going over the current year's happenings, and there have been many, in this, possibly the worst period in local history for political corruption and scandalous activities. Ok, let's be honest ,it's probably been going on for centuries here, but only recentley has it been exposed, sending those involved, from Presisdents to opportunist local mayors to courtrooms in disgrace and also in shackles, and in some cases to Palma prison. And rightly so. I guess we, the tax paying public have finally had enough. These are tough times, and while our elected leaders squander our money on their luxurios lifestyles, we are struggling to pay the mortgage and eat. We are owed this recent clampdown. We came to one agreement; that during the next elections our candidates in charge of public funds guarnatee thaeir activities with their own money. Yeah right, and pigs will fly...The end of the summer is already in sight. What a short summer it's been too. Only three months as opposed to the traditional never ending 6 month Spanish summertime of previious years. Whilst hotels have reported lower than average numbers, we have have been very very busy. I guess in hard times people want to party. There has been so much work that we haven't had the time to think about inviting Djs from outside the island, and our homegrown crew of vinyl junkies have been “steppin upto the plates” and delivered the goods night after night. We have been thinking about how we will paln our autumn program though, and Thursdays are going to get a bit of a makeover. Some years ago we used to showcase local talent, on this night, presenting film, art and even local live music, in a traditinla gallery atmosphere. It was avery positive experience, as much for the artists as for us. For this reason we are introducing this again, and we shall anounce more details next month, but I can tell you that this will run from December until May 2011. As far as the programming of this month, we will open the month with a traditional Malloran dish, Kiko Navarroon 11th September. The accompanying bevearge coming from an excellent Riesling. from the south of Germany, Rainer Trüby on 18 September. Following this we have some Ibizencan surpris in the shape of Willie Graf, and to end for desert we'll have some typical Navrre cusine – Wagon Cooking. What do you think? Sounds tasty eh? We have also tweaked Wednesdays a little too, giving it a funkier vibe, and also allowing me to dust off some classics for a night of funk and groove. We feature our good friends Tap-on, and Uvete, and also Tito Fuster, presenter of the Obita Radioshow on IB3. More news, I am happy to announce that we have a new partner on the team at Garito. Chus Iglesias has joined, taking the place of Eva, who left after eleven years as a co-owner. Chus has bought Eva's shares and is now an active partner in the company. We hope he has the same luck as his predecessor Eva, and will stay with us for a long time to come. Also I want to you to inform you of the new project of another one of our partners, Carlos Velasco, my brother, who in very soon is going to start up his new project, that of a eco farming, next to the monastery of Secar de la Real. He has a space dedicated to the formation in the ecological culture, and will of course be opening an on site store to sell some of the produce. Good luck Bro!! That's it for now, cheers Nacho. |
