Garito Café: la chaise longue - september

We begin the autumn with a new word in the vocabulary of most Spaniards. The word is "crisis". A word that was unspeakable for lack of necessity for many years. Spain has endured a period of massive growth for around ten years, everyone had lots of money, there was almost zero unemployment, and the government repeated that well worn phrase; "España Va Bien!" "Put your money into bricks son, you´ll never lose!", this was the advice of so many parents to their offspring. Everyone bought the flat they had dreamed of, or a second house in the country or by the sea, not forgetting buying a new car more often that I buy new boots for work, (I´m a trainers man) It seemed that everytime Audi redesigned and remarketed thier A4, two months later the streets of Palma would be full of them. Now the same parents are welcoming their kids back to the family home, as mortgages have risen so much they are now unpayable on a single salary, and taking the bus to work. By the end of 2006, Spain had become a super capitalist state, and now the country is paying the price. Boom and Bust. This happened in The UK, Germany and France during the nineties. From around 1992 in the UK it has not been possible to buy a house on one single salary. This is what we are seeing in Spain now. With this recent "crisis", Spain has truly entered the European Communion. Welcome amigos!

So in these times of "crisis" people need to find a way to disconnect from their problems. At the weekends it´s time to party, to sleep, to go to the beach. In Garito we´ll continue with the same music progam that will evolve with changes in contempary undergound styles, and as always, we ´ll keep an eye on the future. In the coming months we will invite new artists like Roland Appel, Radio Slave, and Deetron, and also we shall be inviting backor freinds At Jazz, Rainer Truby and Llorca. Our residents will also be gracing the cabin as usual. If it works don´t fix it! This month we´ll have Arto Mwambe kicking off the new season on Saturday the 6th, and on the 25th Vaco Ispirian will be at the controls.
